What is HOA? HOA is the abbriviation for "Homeowners' Association". What is a Homeowners’ Association? A "homeowners' association" is typically a corporation responsible for the operation of a community in which the voting membership is made up of property owners , and in which membership is a mandatory condition of property ownership, and which is authorized to impose assessments that, if unpaid, may become a lien on the property. What are Homeowners’ Association Fees? Homeowners’ association fees, also known as HOA fees, are fees that are collected from homeowners that reside in a community that is governed by the homeowners’ association. These fees are typically collected to pay for common area maintenance and amenities, such as a gated entrance, a community clubhouse, pool and other such amenities. In some cases the HOA fees may cover other amenities, like cable TV, home alarm monitoring and lawn care. Since each homeowner’s association is set up differently, you should request a current and complete set of governing documents, also known as the HOA documents.
